New Year's 2013-2014

Dear Friend,

We did it! Thanks to your generosity, we exceeded our Annual Campaign fundraising goal! Because of you, we're able to fill $40,000 in program funding gaps and keep our ladder out of poverty strong. If you haven't had a chance to see our new agency video, click on the image to the right to watch.

Free Tax Site Gears Up

Our Free Tax Site opens January 28. This is a vital service for our region: in 2013 we helped 1564 families claim over $3 million in refunds. There are still plenty of opportunities to volunteer. You can greet and interview clients or work one-on-one to prepare returns. We have four general volunteer orientation sessions over the next two weeks and training for preparers starts on Wednesday, January 8th. You can learn about volunteering by watching our new tax site video (left).  More details are on our website. Contact Tesha Dickinson at (218) 726-1665 to sign up.

GED Completion Success

Why are (L-R) KeAnna Williams, Susie Green, and Joanne Morris smiling? They just got their GED with the help of Community Action Duluth's 12-week completion program. We started this program to help participants finish up their certificates before the testing requirements and format change in the new year. Five students completed their GED so far and testing is ongoing; we'll share the final tally when we have it.

Jodi Pfarr is Coming in January
JodiPfarr

There's still time to register for a workshop with nationally recognized poverty expert Jodi Pfarr on January 17th. She'll be leading a full day of discussions and group exercises designed to help in the process of "Connecting Us to Find Solutions to End Poverty." It'll be a session full of insightful and interactive learning; you'll leave with a deeper understanding of poverty and its solutions. Find out more or register by calling Judy Little at 218-726-1665 x26 or check out the event on our website.

MNSure on Almanac North

Recently, our own MNSure Navigator Megan Halena joined Jenny Peterson, director of Generations Health Care, on Almanac North, a local public affairs program. Megan is one two certified navigators on our staff. You can see the video here. In addition to our navigators, we hired four health care promoters to help spread the word that affordable coverage options exist, and are accessible through MNSure.

Even if you aren't able to meet the end-of-the year deadline, today there are still good deals on offer in the new year. Give us a call and see what we can do for you.
