Dear Friend,

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we've almost reached our annual campaign goal! As of this morning, we're just $1,176 away from raising the $20,000 we need to claim a challenge grant of another $20,000 from a group of major donors. This $40,000 will go a long way to closing our funding gap and maintaining the integrity of our services. We're most of the way there, but we need your help top go the last mile. Hearing the Stories of Triumph

On November 19th, about 100 CAD supporters came to the Spirit Mountain Chalet to hear some of our participants tell their stories. They heard about the long road out of poverty and what it takes to travel it. A very special thanks to Beacon Bank for underwriting all of the event costs and to Monica Hendrickson of maurices for co-emceeing the event. Your gifts that night came in just shy of $5,000.

Solutions to End Poverty

Join us on Wednesday, December 4th 2013 (5:30-8pm) at Myers-Wilkins School for a special Big View Community Forum called Solutions to End Poverty. This session will be jointly hosted by Community Action Duluth and the Myers-Wilkins Community School Collaborative. Big View believes that in order to address poverty, we need to build networks of people that move issues forward from honest dialogue to action. Our forums help people build relationships across lines of race and class by bringing together people in poverty and people in power.

This forum features a presentation from parents participating in a ten-week leadership program called Getting Ahead. They will share the results of a survey they conducted on eight concerns of people living in poverty. They'll focus on issues that impact children in Duluth public schools and their parents. We encourage you to invite everyone you know who supports excellence in Duluth Schools: school board members, administrators, and, most of all, parents. Note that the meeting is on a Wednesday, not the usual Thursday, and at Myers-Wilkins School at 1027 N 8th Ave E and not at our office.
