Subject: Farmers Market Today; National Night Out Next Week
August 2013

Dear Friend,

There's a lot going on; really, when isn't there a lot going around here? Our annual report is up on the website, we're hiring a StreamCorps crew member, we had a great special Big View meeting with Rep. Rita Moran, and we've got a big slate of events for the next week.  Our extended community of supporters helps us in so many ways: by donating, by volunteering, and by coming out to our events. I would like to thank everyone for your support in my time of loss; my late husband Steve O'Neil touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,
Angie Miller
Executive Director

National Night Out in Lincoln Park

We've teamed up with the our building-mates the Lincoln Park Branch of the Boys and Girls Club and Lincoln Park Children and Families Collaborative, and our neighbors Rock Hill Community Church for National Night Out. Join us at the Lincoln Park pavilion on Tuesday, August 6th from 5-7 PM for food, music and games, door prizes, and kids activities. In the event of rain, we'll move the party inside to the lower level of our office.

LP Market is Open to Everyone!

We're into the heart of the season now, and classic market veggies are coming out of the fields and down to Harrison Community Center (30th Ave W and 3rd St) on Thursday afternoons, 3-6 PM. We've got tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, zuchinni, and carrots alongside kale, chard, and lettuce. Each week, we feature produce from Seeds of Success and three or four other local producers: eggs, granola, cookies and bread. We take cash, credit cards, and EBT cards; if you get SNAP benefits, you can double you dollars (up to $10/week). You can find out more here; like the CAD Facebook page for weekly updates.

We'll Build You a Rain Garden

Rain gardens capture rainwater and slow the flow of runoff to our streams and our lake, preventing habitat degradation and flash flooding. If you live near a stream, our StreamCorps can install one at your home; if you're the DIY type, there is a 2-day, 4-hour workshop coming up to teach you how to put one in yourself .
