Subject: An Eventful Week
June 2013

Dear Friend,

We've got an action-packed week coming up, and we want you to join us! Come see our new space, shop our urban farm-fresh produce, and hear the voices of parents who've graduated from our Getting Ahead leadership program. And remember, we're hiring a coach and Seeds of Success garden crew memebers; the application deadline is at the end of this eventful week; check out the postings here.

New Office Grand Opening

We're loving our new office and we can't wait to show it off! Come on over on Wednesday, June 26th for an open house from 4-6 pm. At 5 pm, we'll have a brief program with remarks from Mayor Ness and George Sherman, owner of building developer Sherman Associates.

The open house features treats donated by the Duluth Grill, Sarah's Table, Whole Foods Co-op, and the Zeitgeist Arts Cafe. We'll also be breaking in our new outdoor picnic table and benches, courtesy of Loll Designs. Our co-tenants, the Lincoln Park Children and Families Collaborative will be serving hot dogs and hosting activities for kids up to age five. Our other neighbors, the Boys and Girls Club, will also be on hand to give tours of their part of the building and explain the programming they offer for kids ages six and up.

We look forward to seeing you; enter at the smokestack on 5th St. in between 24th and 25th Ave West.

LP Farmers Market Celebration

We had a great first week at the Lincoln Park Farmer's Market and we're looking forward to the next one! Seeds of Success will have more tasty produce and we'll be joined by at least three other vendors including GnarFoodz and Hickety Pickety Eggs & Produce. At 5:30 there will be a community celebration of everything great that's happening at Harrison Community Center including a free picnic dinner, kids activities led by Northern Expressions Arts Collective, and information from Duluth Community Garden Program, CHUM, and Lincoln Park Fair Food Access Campaign.

The Lincoln Park Farmer's Market is managed by CAD and will be open every Thursday this summer (except July 4th) from 3-6 PM. You can pay with cash, credit card, or EBT. If you receive SNAP (food stamps), we'll double your money by matching up to $5 of benefits per week. There's room for more vendors, too.

Big View "Solutions to End Poverty"

Join us on Thursday, June 27th 2013 from 5:30- 8:00 at our new location in the former Lincoln Park Elementary for our next Big View quarterly "Solutions To End Poverty" presentation. The presentation will give voice to the concerns that impact struggling families who have children involved in public and charter schools.

The presentation will feature adult community members involved in the Getting Ahead leadership program. The presentation focuses on how families navigate concerns that intersect both the community and schools in the following categories: Housing, Childcare, Transportation, Jobs/wages, Education, Social Safety Net, Leadership/Race Equity, Financial Literacy.

We hope to see you there! Please come prepared to listen and then discuss solutions and not problems! Dinner starts at 5:30 and free childcare starts at 6:00pm Please consider letting us know you're attending by registering online and please feel free to contact Kaprice Brown 218-726-1665 x 26 for more information.
