Subject: We're headed west!
April 2013

It is the mission of Community Action Duluth to use innovative strategies that mobilize low-income people and the broader community to build assets that prevent poverty, create equality, and strengthen our social fabric.

Dear Friend,

We're moving! If you haven't heard (which we hope you have) we are moving to the former Lincoln Park elementary school. Our offices will be closed Friday April 19-Tuesday April 23 to reopen at our new location Wednesday April 24th. Our new address will be 2424 West 5th Street Suite 102. Our phone (218-726-1665), fax (218-726-1612) and website will stay the same!

We're excited for the opportunity to work in a space that will facilitate collaboration with other great programs in the area, including the Boys and Girls Club and Lincoln Park Children and Families Collaborative! A very special thanks to LISC for financing our ability to move. Stay tuned for an "open house" announcement.

Sincerely,
Angie Miller
Executive Director

Pedagogy of the Poor: Building a Movement to End Poverty

We're a co-sponsor of CHUM's spring assembly on Thursday at St. Scholastica. The event features Willie Baptist and John Wessel-McCoy from the Poverty Institute at Union Theological seminary in New York.

Baptist asserts in his book, "Pedagogy of the Poor" that, "Society, including our social service agencies, is set up to administer antipoverty programs, not to build a movement to end poverty." If "society" can't do it, how can we as individuals come together to do better? Check out our online calendar for more details

Our 2013 Legislative Policy Agenda

Every year, our board gets together to look at the legislation that is likely to come up before the Minnesota legislature in the upcoming session and decide where we, as antipoverty advocates, have a role to play in ensuring a policy environment that favors helping low-income families build assets.

Our agenda is up on the website; Check it out and stay tuned for more policy background and opportunities to help us make our state better place.
