Description Online Prayer Series: Liturgy of the Hours

Liturgy of the Hours, the Divine Office, or Common Prayer historically was carried in the Christian tradition by the monastic lineages, of which ancient roots called for a rhythm of praying seven times daily in common with other community members. As the practice continues in religious communities and extends to more members of the laity, the modern structure often calls for a basic rhythm of prayer in the morning, noon, evening, and before bed. The content of the Common Prayer draws mostly from the Psalms, hymns, scripture, and sacred texts from the tradition, and the structure varies over time and among communities. In this session, we will review the history and structure of the Liturgy of the Hours, explore its use in modern communities, and practice a contemporary expression together.

A Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the event.
