Description Online Prayer Series: Intercessory/Healing Prayer

Praying for others is a staple of Christian practice. It takes many forms, ranging from the formal petitions of weekly communal worship, to the child’s nighttime prayers for family and friends, to the laying on of hands. Intercessory prayer has recently been distinguished from petitionary prayer as a more open-ended form of prayer that seeks to “pray the prayer God is already praying” in the person. Healing prayer also carries the marks of modern practice in contemporary Healing Touch, which has a direct connection to traditional laying on of hands. In this session we will broadly review the historical roots of these two forms of prayer, explore their modern expressions, and practice each prayer form with opportunity for reflection.
