Online Prayer Series: An Introduction to Engaging Scripture: Lectio Divina
In this two-part session, we will engage two Christian models for engaging scripture. Both Lectio Divina and Ignatian Contemplation are time-tested models that welcome people of any level of training to more deeply engage with sacred scriptures. Both models engage the head and the heart and integrate daily life experience into the reflective process. The day will include an overview of the historical context of each prayer form, practical tips on how to pray with the scriptures, and an actual experience of each form of prayer. Historically, Lectio Divina has been a monastic practice that has gained popularity in recent decades. It involves a four-tiered process of reading, meditating, praying, and contemplating. In this session, we will address both the individual and group formats.
