May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Vinland helps sponsor & participates in the annual Walk for Mental Wellness on Sat. May 18th at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park - & we hope to see you there! https://lnkd.in/gRqM6ktZ Mental Health America is proud to have founded in 1949 what is now known as Mental Health Month. Every May, they come together with millions of Americans to continue the tradition of promoting awareness, offering vital resources and education, and advocating for the mental health and well-being of everyone. • Being able to maintain good mental health is essential to each and every individual’s overall health and well-being. Mental health conditions are common, manageable, and treatable. One in 5 people will experience a mental health condition in any given year, and everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. • About half of Americans will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition sometime in their lives, with symptoms starting by age 14 for the majority of people. • It is never too soon to seek treatment for your mental health. Getting help early saves lives. • Mental Health America Screening provides a free, anonymous, quick, and easy way to determine whether a person is experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. Take a mental health test at mhascreening.org.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines concussion as a traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, stretching and damaging brain cells and creating chemical changes in the brain. A concussion is generally referred to as a mild traumatic brain injury or mTBI. There may be signs of injury to the head, such as bruising or cuts, or there may be no visible injury. A person does not necessarily pass out after a concussion. Medical providers may describe a concussion as a “mild” traumatic brain injury because concussions are usually not life-threatening. Even so, all brain injuries – including concussions – should be taken seriously. Go here for more information to be aware of regarding concussions: https://ow.ly/xYMX50QFn2K
