SUMMARY:Meditative Movement as a Path for Holy Listening
CATEGORIES:event
DESCRIPTION:Meditative Movement as a Path for Holy Listening Most people accept the idea that the mind can be a tool for spiritual exploration - we use the mind in meditation and prayer, and we read and ponder spiritual literature with our minds to deepen connection with the Holy. Emotions are also another mode of spiritual inquiry; think about the devotional approach of some religions as accepted practice to enhance spiritual experience. But we often don’t spend much time thinking of the spiritual access to be gained through the body and movement. In fact, in some religious traditions, the body, the “flesh,” was thought to be a barrier to more spiritual aspirations. However, our bodies are truly wonderful sources for deep and holy listening if we understand how to pay attention. Join Spiritual Director and Retreat Facilitator, Beth Wood-Roig, as she shares practices from different spiritual traditions for listening to our bodies’ innate wisdom. We will explore various forms of movement, sometimes meditative, sometimes silly, hopefully fun, and ever surprising. There will also be time and space for personal contemplation and practice, as well as group reflection and sharing. Weather permitting, you may also wish to spend some time outside at the beautiful Well property. No prior experience is needed, just basic mobility. All movements can be modified for any fitness level. Light snacks will be provided and you are also welcome to bring a snack of your choice. Please don’t hesitate! This program is limited to 10 participants. Our bodies are waiting to speak to us. Let’s listen together! DATE: Saturday, May 11, 2024 TIME: 12:00 - 5:00 PM COST: $60 LOCATION: Well for the Journey - 120 W. Seminary Ave, Lutherville-Timonium, MD 21093 FACILITATOR: Beth Wood-Roig FACILITATOR BIO: Beth’s background includes many years leading contemplative retreats, small group facilitation and spiritual companioning. She believes that we each experience the Divine in our own unique way. Her sense of the One is that of loving Presence, holding us gently through all of life, the joys, surprises, sorrows, uncertainties, worries, fears, and assurances. Her faith background is Unitarian Universalist, with Christian and Buddhist leanings, and she often finds spiritual grounding in body prayer and nature. Beth has completed certificates in Contemplative Leadership and in Spiritual Direction for Spiritual Guides, both from Oasis Ministries for Spiritual Development, based in Camp Hill, PA. She enjoys gardening, hiking, reading, body prayer and dance, and spending time with her family and two kitties. PREPARING FOR YOUR PROGRAM: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 2 days in advance of the start of your program. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts, location information, and the Zoom Link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. If you are unable to find the email, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. Thank you! CANCELLATION POLICY: We recognize that sometimes plans change and you may not be able to attend a program for which you are registered. On rare occasions, the Well may also need to cancel or reschedule a program. Both situations are disappointing, but we are prepared with the following options. If a program is cancelled by Well for the Journey, or rescheduled and you cannot make the new date, a full refund will be provided to you. For programs with pre-scheduled Inclement Weather Dates, refunds will be provided only if both the original scheduled date and the planned Weather Date are cancelled. If you are unable to attend a program for which you are registered, you may gift your ticket to another party. Please notify the Well with your request at kristan@wellforthejourney.org and provide the name, mailing address, and email address of the person who is taking your place at the program. If you cancel your registration 72 hours or more prior to the program start time, you may request a refund up to 50% of the program fee or request that your 50% refund be donated to the Well’s Scholarship Fund. Please contact the Well with your request at kristan@wellforthejourney.org . Refunds are not available for cancellations when notification is received by the Well in less than 72 hours prior to the start of the program so that sufficient funds are available to cover the Well’s administrative expenses. We sincerely appreciate your consideration of the time and effort that the Well and your Facilitator put forth in bringing your program to life and thank you for your understanding of our Cancellation Policy.
