Description SUMMER BIBLE STUDY: "The Connection: Where Hearts Meet"

This interactive small group study is designed to help us (as volunteers and parents/caregivers) build connections with our own children and our rancher clients. We will meet once a week for 8 weeks on Thursday nights from 5:30- 8 pm at Western Hanover Church. The first night will be Thursday, June 18th and the last night will be Thursday, August 6th, 2020. Pot luck dinner shared from 5:30 pm to 6:00, study from 6:00 - 8 pm. Please register on-line through this link so we can prepare and share any materials you may need prior to the first night. This will also help us communicate any changes in schedule with registered attendees due to the Corona Virus.

Course description: You will be encouraged and equipped with practical help based on Biblical truths and research based interventions specifically developed for adoptive, foster care families and people in relationship with children who have experienced trauma. While this study will be specifically geared towards preparing volunteers for this special work, we welcome parents and guardians of our ranchers to participate as well. If received well we would like to offer the study again for parents and guardians but it would be structured more for them as a support group instead of educational emphasis.

When we meet we will watch video sessions by, Dr. Karyn Purvis, author of The Connected Child, and Elizabeth Styffe of Saddleback Church as well as have small group discussion. We are very excited that a trained facilitator from Saddleback Church in CA is going to actually facilitate this study via ZOOM, both for those of us in person at the church AND for those who would like to participate via ZOOM. Once you register, you will select your participation option IN PERSON or via ZOOM. Those participating via ZOOM will receive the links via email ahead of time.

Just to highlight a few of the topics covered: "Understand What Causes Difficult Behavior and How to Respond to it, Identify and Disarm a Child's Fear Responses, and TeachYour Child New Life Values." The authors say "All families at times face struggles and difficulties, but for families who adopt or foster children who have come from the "hard places", those struggles and difficulties are often greatly increased in intensity and complexity. This study is designed to help you change the way you relate to your child and bring healing to his or her heart."

If you would like to participate in the the potluck, we just ask you to arrive by 5:30 to share the meal, bring a dish, dessert or side to share with others. We will provide plastic single use utensils to serve the food and take in to account social distancing and sanitary procedures. There is plenty of space in the church to provide for social distancing as we eat, learn and dsicuss.

We look forward to seeing you in person of via ZOOM on Thursday, June 18th, 2020!

Please contact us with any questions.
