Description
Join Joe Watts, Principal at Watts Consulting, as he explores the latest trends in nonprofit websites, social-media feeds, and search-engine optimization.
Joe began working with nonprofits and small businesses in 2000, after leaving the publishing industry and a short stint as an executive director of a small conservation non-profit. His goal has always been to take the knowledge he gained in the magazine industry and from working with communities across the state to provide simple, concrete, and cost-effective ways to make the world a better place. He has been active in web development and social media management for nearly 20 years, building more than 150 websites through the years, starting out before content management systems were really a thing. He manages more than 20 social media accounts for organizations (from small groups with under 1,000 followers to several over 20,000). Promoting environmental and community-based projects is a professional passion. A life-long Alabamian, Joe has been active in the conservation community since the
early 1990s. He helped craft the legislation that created Alabama’s scenic
byways program in 1999 and remains committed to promoting Alabama’s natural and rural environments. He’s worked on many statewide tourism programs, including the Alabama Birding Trails program and several regional tourism initiatives. As a volunteer, he was elected as President of Alabama Audubon in 2016, presiding as the organization grew from one staff member to ten. He continues as a member of the executive committee. He was elected to the National Audubon Society Board of Directors in 2019 and currently serves as director for six southeastern states. He is the first vice president for a newly fledged non-profit, Birdability, and advocates for accessibility, both at “real” locations and the virtual world.
