Description Your trainer will be Ansel Payne, Founder and Principal, Studio Oldfields. Ansel founded Studio Oldfields in 2022 to provide nonprofit leaders, scholars, and others with the thoughtful assistance they need to achieve their goals.

A graduate of Harvard (BA) and Tufts (MS), Ansel earned his PhD in 2014 at the American Museum of Natural History, where he worked to uncover the complex evolutionary history of digger wasps. Since then, he’s focused his efforts almost exclusively on the nonprofit sector, most recently as the Executive Director of Alabama Audubon, a Birmingham-based organization that he helped to take statewide in 2019.

In addition to his consulting work, Ansel is a co-founder and practice leader in the Burning Rock Soto Zen community, a fiction and nonfiction writer, and an advocate for a more humane approach to work.

He proudly calls Birmingham, Alabama, home.

With burnout and mission fatigue on the rise, wise nonprofit leaders need to develop strategies for protecting their time and maintaining their enthusiasm. This training will cover the latest and most effective strategies for developing sustainable leadership in our hectic modern age.

Participants will:

-understand how digital tools have affected productivity and work-life balance
-learn to recognize the signs of burnout and overextension
-learn strategies to tame email, social-media use, and other digital distractions
-learn how to take control of schedules through time-block planning, office hours, and structured downtime
-learn how to talk to boards about organizational right-sizing, sabbatical planning, and administrative support
-learn to use new tools like Trello for project management
-workshop challenges and possible solutions in their own work
