Description Online Prayer Series: The Rosary/Prayer Beads

Prayer beads are a part of every major religious tradition. Their general intent is to align spoken or whispered words with the body and the breath. In the Christian family, the use of prayer beads emerged alongside recitation of the Jesus Prayer. As early as the ninth century, devotional use of prayer beads associated with the Hail Mary and meditating on the events of the life of Christ began to emerge. After a few centuries, the official church formalized a structure and set of mysteries which came to be known as the Rosary. In this session, we will broadly review the use of prayer beads across faith traditions and explore the history of the Rosary more specifically. We will also practice the communal form of the Rosary together, with opportunity for questions and reflection.
