Many spiritual seekers surprisingly report very little training or formation in what it means to pray or how to do it in general. Even fewer folks have had direct access to teaching on specific recognized prayer forms. Many of us yearn for dynamic, transformational prayer lives, but feel at a loss for how to sustain our prayer life. The Prayer series hosted by EHoP consists of short-sessions on particular Christian prayer forms, and intends to offer practical support to people who yearn to pray.
In this session, we will learn about the ancient Christian practice of the Jesus Prayer. Developed in the early centuries of Christianity, the Jesus Prayer involves the repetition of a sacred phrase which is intended to keep one’s mind and heart constantly on the Lord. The day will include an overview of the historical origins of the prayer method, practical instruction on how to discern your own sacred words, and an actual experience of the prayer method.
