Description Honoring the Earth Through the Ancient Languages of Drumming and Dance

Join Katy Gaughan, Drum Circle Facilitator, and Lisa Bardack, Sacred Circle Dance Facilitator, to intentionally honor the Earth with drumming and dance. The flow of our time together will be a gentle exchange of music and motion followed by rest and reflection, as we connect to the rhythms of the Earth, ourselves, and each other.

Drumming is an ancient technology now understood as a pathway to connect and express ourselves in community through the power of nonverbal expression. Sacred Circle Dances are an ancient practice of honoring and embodying the cycles of the seasons and our own bio-rhythms, creating community with all life through movement. These ancient practices were the primary languages of human expression, born out of the Earth, and serve us greatly now as we ground into and celebrate being alive on this amazing planet we call home, allowing the ancestors and the Earth to guide us with sacred understanding so needed at this time.

Our time together looks like:

Morning: Drum, Dance, Reflect, Dance
Lunch break: Please bring a bag lunch and beverage.
Afternoon: Drum, Dance, Reflect, Drum

Join these experienced and captivating facilitators at the beautiful Hudson Barn on Delight Farm in Sparks, MD. No drumming or dance experience or skills is needed. Katy and Lisa will guide us every step and beat of the day! Drums will be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own.

Katy Gaughan is a drummer and Drum Circle Facilitator whose mission is to bring people together to experience the positive vibrations of the drum. Through her organization Drumming for Wellness, Katy facilitates group drumming experiences for wellness, community building and celebration. She has been leading drum circles in the Washington, DC area for the past 15 years, most notably the Washington National Cathedral drum circle that went viral and was seen by 400,000 people. Katy provides drum circles for schools, assisted living facilities, retirement communities, churches, non-profit organizations, birthday parties, team-building events, community festivals and celebrations and works with kids, adults, seniors, and special needs populations. Katy also leads weekend and day-long retreats that incorporate wellness, rhythm, drumming, spirituality, and nature. She has also learned how to provide drum circles virtually on Zoom! Katy was trained by Arthur Hull and is a certified Global Drum Circle Facilitator Trainer with Village Music Circles. Katy is also a graduate of Remo Health Rhythms and Rhythm to Recovery Trainings and is a member of the Drum Circle Facilitator’s Guild. www.katygaughan.com.

Lisa Bardack, Sacred Circle Dance facilitator, has been dancing most of her life, feeling a deep sense of authenticity with this art form. It was in 1997 that she first experienced Sacred Circle Dance and fell in love with this collective experience of dancing ancient and traditional steps, some thousands of years old, to wonderful music from around the world. She has studied Sacred Circle Dance for over 15 years through classes and conferences nationally and internationally and has been teaching since 2008. In addition to her background in dance, Lisa has also studied yoga, tai chi, qigong, NIA, and other forms of dance, cultivating a seasoned understanding of body movement as an instrument for joy, healing, and wisdom.
