Description

Worship in the Wild

During Covid, many of us experienced communal worship in new ways, mostly through on-line alternatives and outdoors. We grew accustomed to experiencing worship that wasn’t attached to a particular sacred building or in-person with others not in our household. Our experience of worship expanded and with it our freedom to recognize the sacred in many worship spaces.

Please join us this Spring for “Worship in the Wild” at Cromwell Valley Park. In this alternative worship experience, retired Episcopal priest and avid outdoor enthusiast, Scott Slater, will gently move us along a trail where the “worship space” changes and encourages our sense of spirituality in nature. We will intentionally use inclusive and expansive language that invites us to think more broadly about how we understand terms such as God or Spirit. The order of service will be loosely structured and based on historic Christian Sunday worship patterns, but with broader, more inclusive, and non-Christian specific language. Sacred readings will come from the Hebrew Bible, Koran, and Christian Gospels.

We will gather at the Willow Grove Nature Center (east entrance of Cromwell Valley Park). The ability to walk for a mile and stand for ten minutes at a time along the trail is required. Please dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes. This offering is free, but please register for planning purposes and so that we can notify you if worship is cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstance. Thank you!
