The Laws of Life and Your Brain’s Health
“It is the opinion of those who best understand the physical system, that if the physical [and spiritual] laws were strictly observed from generation to generation, there would be an end to the frightful diseases that cut life short…and of the long list of maladies that make life a torment or a trial and that this wonderful machine, the body, this godly temple would gradually decay and men and women would at last die as if gently falling asleep.” ~ Elizabeth Buckminster Sedgwick (1788–1862), Educator & Author
Question: What makes for a long, prosperous, happy and healthy life?
Answer: It is never just one thing. We all know that, but there are things that are weightier – that have greater impact on our lives than others, in a sense. In this program, we will be examining the laws (factors) that exert the greatest influence on our spiritual, psychological, emotional and physical lives, and, directly or indirectly, our brains. For example, one of the laws of life speaks to the quality of our relationships. We know from research done at Harvard that good quality relationships play a significant role in health and longevity. Many times we focus on the external, the physical, to solve our problems, while overlooking the little, day-to-day things we do that have greater impact on the health of our brains and bodies. Through our partnership with Baltimore County's Department of Aging, the Well was introduced to Dr. David Ajibade, award-winning physician, thought leader, and dementia educator. Join David for this intriguing program, where we will discuss the different laws and how they affect our brain and overall mental health. We will engage in large group discussions, small group conversations, and exercises to ascertain ways that we can strengthen our spirits, minds and bodies by intelligently applying the seven laws of life. These laws state that the quality of your life (or your health, your business, your marriage, fill in the blanks) depends on the quality of:
Essentially, these seven factors are key components to living a long and healthy, human life. Every functioning human being in the world has these factors operating to some degree in their life. Most individuals, however, are not deliberately or purposefully using them to direct the course of their lives. While the first three relate to a person’s internal world, such as your core being and personality, the next three relate to the external – our relationship with others, food, the environment, what we do with our bodies, and so on. The seventh law is a bi-directional factor that influences the other six while simultaneously being influenced by them. Participants who engage in this program will receive a more expansive understanding of what being “healthy” truly means, on a spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical level, and they will be able to manifest specific action steps to take to improve the quality of their health and lives. Participants will develop insight around discerning which behaviors and practices harm our brains and which ones support them, so that we can easily improve our brain function throughout our lives and enjoy good cognition, memory and moods well into our 90s and beyond!
