Dementia Friends Information Session: Become Dementia Friendly in Your Community

Millions of Americans are living with dementia, and countless others are supporting them as unpaid family caregivers, friends, and neighbors. Chances are very good that you know, love, or are somehow connected to a person living with dementia and wonder how you can better engage with and support them.

Through our collaborative partnership with Baltimore County Department of Aging and its Dementia Friendly Initiative, Well For The Journey is inviting you to register for a (free) online session aimed at providing an overall understanding of dementia. The Dementia Friends program focuses on five key messages that it believes everyone should know about dementia:

· Dementia is not a normal part of aging
· Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain
· It is not just about losing your memory
· It is possible to live well with dementia
· There is more to the person than the dementia

Relevant communication tips, small acts that make a big difference, and community resources for engaging individuals living with dementia will also be offered. Participants will receive a Dementia Friends workbook to utilize during and after the program.

As part of our mission to encourage and support spiritual well-being, connection, and community, the Well has been involved with Baltimore County’s Dementia Friendly Initiative for several years and has offered a series of programs for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. The Well’s Program Director, Gordon Creamer has been trained as a Dementia Friends Champion and facilitator of this life-giving information session. If you identify as a care partner or are interested in becoming more aware of dementia as it continues to impact ever-growing numbers of families in America and globally, please join Gordon for this free online session.

FACILITATOR: Gordon Creamer

FACILITATOR BIO: Gordon Creamer, creator of the Mission Bridge, currently serves as Program Director at Well for the Journey, a spiritual wellness center in Lutherville, Maryland. As a contemplative and creative builder, he has held leadership roles in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various assisted living, skilled nursing, and hospice communities. He earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Currently, he is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute.
