Sacred Object Grieving Circle: A gathering for remembrance, storytelling, and healing in community
Jennifer Cullinane, a Baltimore end-of-life doula, invites you to a Sacred Object Grieving Circle: a gentle in-person gathering for those carrying the loss of someone they love. Participants are invited to bring a meaningful object that reminds them of the person they are grieving—a photograph, small keepsake, or anything that holds memory, tenderness, and connection for you. As we gather, each sacred object will be placed on or near a simple altar, creating a shared space of remembrance, reverence, and compassionate presence. Jennifer will offer guidance through grounding, contemplative practice, and the sacred art of listening. As the circle unfolds, each object becomes a doorway into memory, love, and story. Participants will be invited to share only as they feel moved, while the group gently holds one another’s grief with tenderness and care. In this circle, grief is welcomed as an expression of love. Through storytelling and compassionate listening, participants may find space to remember, to speak what longs to be spoken, and to feel less alone on the journey of loss. The sacred object offers a gentle place to begin, allowing memory and meaning to emerge without pressure or expectation. Through a closing ritual, we will honor each participant’s loss, the loved ones remembered, and our shared humanity as people who grieve, love, remember, and continue to heal in community. Each participant will leave with a handout that explains the common types of grief and gives recommendations and resources for those who are interested in further exploration of their grief. We will gather for approximately 1½–2 hours, allowing the time to unfold according to the size of the group and the space each person needs for sharing.

FACILITATOR BIO: Jennifer Cullinane is a Baltimore end-of-life doula and the founder of Cardinal Light Doula Services, LLC. After a 20-year career in the federal government, where she worked supporting disability services, Jennifer felt called to walk alongside individuals and families through the tender transitions of death, dying, and grief. Jennifer’s approach is rooted in the belief that death is a profound mystery and that each person deserves information, non-medical companionship, and emotional support as they consider what a meaningful and personalized dying experience may look like for them. She received end-of-life doula training through INELDA, the International End of Life Doula Association, and SAGE, Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders. Recently, Jennifer served as a hospice volunteer with Stella Maris Hospice, supporting dying patients and their families. She is also honored to work in after-death care at MacNabb Funeral Home in Catonsville, where she consults with families receiving cremated remains and supports multicultural funeral services and bereavement traditions.
